Over the last couple weeks there have been a bunch of articles comparing U.S. President Barack Obama to the Star Trek character Spock... Obama screened JJ Abrams’ new Star Trek reboot over the weekend, and it turns out that he liked it:
“Star Trek, we saw this weekend, which I thought was good. Everybody was saying I was Spock, so I figured I should check it out and,” Obama tells Newsweek before givng the Vulcan salute. “I used to love Star Trek. You know, Star Trek was ahead of its time. There was a whole—the special effects weren’t real good, but the storylines were always evocative, you know, there was a little commentary and a little pop philosophy for a 10-year-old to absorb.”

Se existiam dúvidas quanto ao facto de o Festival de Cinema de Cannes ser actualmente o melhor, a lista dos filmes em competição deste ano, é uma prova irrefutável disso mesmo.
Antichrist de Lars von Trier (já aqui mencionado por duas vezes), é um deles. Após a estreia neste certame, não tardaram a chover críticas (de todas as formas e feitios) um pouco por toda a net. Eis algumas delas:
Roger Ebert: “…goes beyond malevolence into the monstrous. Never before have a man and woman inflicted more pain upon each other in a movie. We looked in disbelief.” … “Whether this is a bad, good or great film is entirely beside the point. It is an audacious spit in the eye of society. It says we harbor an undreamed-of capacity for evil. It transforms a psychological treatment into torture undreamed of in the dungeons of history. Torturers might have been capable of such actions, but they would have lacked the imagination. Von Trier is not so much making a film about violence as making a film to inflict violence upon us, perhaps as a salutary experience. It’s been reported that he suffered from depression during and after the film. You can tell. This is the most despairing film I’ve ever have seen.”
FirstShowing: “I think I enjoyed it. See that’s the problem - Antichrist is fucked up. In a good way? Or in a bad way? Even I don’t know the answer to that question (or maybe that’s something you’ll decide for yourself), but I can tell you it’s one hell of an exhilarating experience watching this. My gut feeling coming out of it is that I actually liked it, screwed up or not.”
TheWrap : “an utterly strange and deeply perverted take on the horror genre.” … “At first, it’s an elegant grief drama. Then — suddenly, shockingly — it transforms into “The Shining” meets Evil Dead with green politics, torture porn and a fair amount of Lynchian abstractions.” … “heavily graphic moments keenly designed to make you cringe, including a couple of genitalia gags worthy of Jack Smith.” … “Gripped by the calculation of the design, I think I loved it, but might have been blindsighted by the sheer audacity of its twisted conception. Like many audience members from tonight’s crowd, I need to let it sit for awhile — in my nightmares, most likely."
Twitchfilm: "Lars von Trier may be anti-Christ but apparently God is anti-Lars. This morning’s Cannes screening of Antichrist? Projector broke thirty seconds in. This afternoon’s? Shut down by a major power outage. I’m waiting in line now for attempt three..."

É difícil analisar, cientificamente, o que faz uma pessoa rir ou o que é engraçado ou não. No entanto, poucos devem ser aqueles que não acham piada a este fenómeno cinematográfico. O próximo produto saído da mente de Judd Apatow será Funny People que, pelas imagens, parece querer manter o mesmo nível de qualidade.

Volta e meia...
... e lá estou eu a falar de filmes. As sugestões recaem desta vez para The Road, 'the most important film of the year' segundo a Esquire Magazine.
Cá para mim, estes tipos devem estar esquecidos de Avatar que estreia mais lá para o final do ano... Por falar em grandes filmes, fiquem com o trailer de Rob Marshall, "Nine", cujo elenco se encontra recheado de estrelas, a começar pelo grande Daniel Day-Lewis.
Pancadaria da grossa
Acho que depois de Bloodsport (Força Destruidora em PT), o ícone máximo dos filmes de artes marciais na minha singela opinião, e de Karate Kid (podem não acreditar, mas lembro-me perfeitamente da dificuldade que senti em conter as lágrimas após o término de ambos, sobretudo, durante os créditos finais de karate Kid sublimados com o tema inesquecível de Peter Cetera: Glory of Love… simplesmente brilhante! LOL) que este género cinematográfico nunca mais encontrou sucessores dignos da forma soberba com que estes conjugaram, em perfeita sintonia, a acção e drama.
Mas ao que parece os tempos são de mudança, e ainda há pouco tempo, através de Ong-bak, tivemos uma interessante tentativa de elevar as artes marciais a um patamar bem acima da “chungaria” que durante os anos 90 se viu a potes.
Este ano será a vez Merantau tentar a sua sorte:

A paródia sexual a Star trek não poderia falhar!!! Coincidência das coincidências é a data de estreia desta imponente versão coincidir precisamente com a data da versão mais "soft" no EUA.
Vamos lá ver qual das duas vai sair vencedora do "box office". A luta essa, vai ser com certeza renhida, basta reparar no trailer:Peter Jackson presents...
... e a meu ver muito bem, District 9, filme de estreia do realizador Neill Blomkamp.
Versão "não censurada" do trailer, apenas à distância de um clique.
Por falar em Peter Jackson, um nome que irá ser sempre associado à colossal e inigualável trilogia do Senhor dos Anéis, eis que surge na net, algo muito interessante: “The Hunt For Gollum” um filme com cerca de 40 minutos e com um custo inferior a $5,000… o que é realmente impressionante face à qualidade que apresenta.
Produzido e realizado apenas por fãs, este filme baseia-se no universo de Tolkien, no qual Aragorn procura Gollum a pedido de Gandalf, uma das muitas histórias que infelizmente não puderam ser retratadas na longa-metragem.
Como não encontrei nenhuma forma de o embutir no blogue aqui fica o link, que nenhum fã desta apaixonante saga deve ignorar. Tanto mais que, The Hobbit só tem data marcada para 2012.
